Preparation for Bilingual Authorization Session Added to MECA schedule
On Saturday, August 19th from 9:15 am to 10:00 am, Dr. J. Sabrina Mims-Cox, the coordinator for the California State University Los Angeles Bilingual/Multicultural MA option, will present on their program and the preparation required for Bilingual Authorization.
J. Sabrina Mims-Cox obtained her Ph.D. in Education through the Joint Doctoral Program between The Claremont Graduate University and San Diego State University. She has taught all grade levels in both English and Spanish including Early Childhood and Adult Education. She has also taught and presented internationally in Korea, Egypt, Australia, Japan, China, South Africa, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Cuba, Canada, and Spain. She maintains a strong publication record in both English and Spanish, and has served on numerous editorial boards. She is presently a Professor of Education at California State University, Los Angeles, USA where she coordinates the Masters Degree in Education Program with an Option in Bilingual Multicultural Education. She also serves as Curriculum Director and Research Coordinator for the Los Angeles Urban Teacher Residency Program. She is a past member of the Board of Directors of the California Council of Teacher Educators and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the California Association of Bilingual Teacher Educators. In addition, she serves on the Board of Institutional Reviewers for the California Commission of Teacher Credentialling.
Her primary teaching interests include educational equity and social justice particularly in language development, literacy and all areas of diversity. As the Digital Ambassador for California State University, Los Angeles, she is also focused on the successful integration of technology into every aspect of teaching and learning. She is currently teaching mostly graduate courses in education, graduate program coordinator, and also serves as a consultant with both public and private schools.
She currently serves as Research Coordinator for the Los Angeles Urban Teacher Residency Transformative Initiative and as the Digital Ambassador for California State University, Los Angeles. A continual research focus for her has been on school transformation and sustainable reform. Her primary areas of research and interest include Multilingual/Multicultural Education, Emergent Literacy, New Models of Teacher Education in a Global Community and School Transformation. She has authored several children’s reading textbook series in both Spanish and English along with numerous articles in professional journals, books, and book chapters. She has presented internationally on the topics of school transformation and reform and serves as an educational consultant. Her other research interests include Teacher Leadership, Portfolio Development, and Multilingualism.
