Shifting Special Education Teacher Beliefs

Shifting Special Education Teacher Beliefs Through Conversations and Activities Utilizing Disability Studies and Critical Race Theory (DisCrit)

Using a framework of disability studies and critical race theory (DisCrit), this presentation will highlight the expressed beliefs of special education teacher candidates who are obtaining a credential to work in large urban school districts in Southern California. The presentation will share the development and expression of teachers beliefs about disability and race using course journal reflections, course reflection essays, disability and racial attitudes surveys, and semi-structured interviews (for a subsection of the participants).
